Almost everyone has done it at sometime -- students do miss classes and they tend to give many reasons to justify their absence. A Survey has been conducted by a Journalist to find out the different reasons behind the absence of students in their classes. The survey results showed that 55 percent students were more likely to miss a class just before a scheduled break, such as spring break. Others miss their classes because of sleep, illness, failing to do a homework…Also, the Survey indicated that the morning classes were the most likely to be missed because students don’t want to wake up early in the morning. Other reasons are behind this phenomenon and they are all valid reasons for why some students don’t attend their classes. (Ogren)

The University of Alabama at Birmingham conducted a research about the reasons that are often given by students for not attending class. The most common excuse given by all the students is: I overslept. But it becomes a problem if a student missed the same class many times for the same reason. Another common excuse is: The class isn’t challenging. The research tries to cite all the reasons that have already been cited by students and gives some advice to students so that they try to come to their classes even if they don’t like the course, or they can’t wake up early in the morning or for many other reason.

In overall this study has examined the effects of student behavior, teacher attributes, and course characteristics on class attendance.
